Your chance to drive a vintage Series Land Rover

7 years 4 months ago #4761 by Ted
Okay,
Here is the deal. Marilyn and I are taking our 1965 Series IIA and either the Disco or RRC to the rally. Then we are going to Monument Valley with Chad's group - taking just one truck. So I will have to leave the Series somewhere in Oak Creek and pick it up later unless someone would like the chance to drive this classic bit of Land Rover History from Oak Creek back to Phoenix.
For the right person this could be a lot of fun... but full disclosure, it is loud, and slow on the highway.
For the person willing to take it back from Oak Creek, I will also through in a day of using it on the trail during the rally if you like. It is very capable on the trail as it has a V8 engine, disc brakes, lockers front and rear and a few other goodies.

Cheers,

Someone take Ted up on his offer. Take it from me, this truck is a blast to drive and probably even more so if the top is off. It is extremely capable offroad, not too many places it won't go.

I'd do it but I'm already trying to get my 1991 and 1992 RRC there. Rumor has it there might be a for sale sign on the 1992.

Ted, do you need someone from Phoenix to bring it back and store it for you or do you have a place to drop it off at?

Owned a RHD Series while stationed in UK which made it a bit easier for my 6'9" frame to shift gears. But if I can fit I am more than willing to help you, it would be great to get behind the wheel of a Series again.

First, this is a great offer. You will never look at a Series truck the same again. They are fun and unique! <!-- s:thumbup: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_1thumb_up.gif" alt="" title="thumbsup" /><!-- s:thumbup: -->

Ted, we have a similar issue. We will have our Range Rover and Dormobile with us in Cottonwood. Then we have to come home for Grace to go to school and then return on Thursday for the Overland Expo. I don't want to drive both cars back and forth from Tucson. I spoke with Tracy, the manager, at A-1 Affordable Mini &amp; RV Storage in Camp Verde. She told me I could rent a spot for the whole month, because they only rent by the month, but it is only $32 plus tax. You have to be there in person, so I am going to stop by at the start of the rally. She was very nice and did not think there would be a problem with getting a space. Here is their website:

1968 Series IIA Dormobile - 20,000 BTU stove, 16 gallon water capacity, accommodations for 4, dining area, and restroom
1992 Range Rover - Did you know the 14th wedding anniversary is the Range Rover Anniversary?

Possibly could help - can you answer a few questions and pardon my ignorance...
Could the driver of the Series depart Sunday morning for Phoenix?
What is the top speed on an uphill highway road?
Manual drive I presume? Diesel?
Where in Phoenix approximately does it need to be dropped off at?
Thanks!

Uphill is not really an issue, as it has lots of power-it's just geared low. It can do 70, but that is spooky. It is comfortable between 50-60

5-speed manual (drives like a 4 speed as 1st gear is reallylow. Generally start out in 2nd. Petrol.

Anywhere really. Pre-Flight Parking would be good.
Thanks!

Thank You!
