Coke Ovens 11/1 was created by le1gf
Hello,

My buddy and I are going to go look for the Coke Ovens Saturday 11/1.

Anybody interested in going? Probably leaving a little later 9 or 10.

Anybody interested in leading the trail?

Anybody have any idea on how to get there?

Anybody have any idea on roughly how long it takes?

Anybody have any idea on the difficulty of the trail? He drives a Toyota pick up, open diffs, 31X10.5 tires. He does have some experience off road.

Any and all info is appreciated.

Thanks,

Glenn

Great trail..

I'd lead but I'm booked that day.

Florence Junction area, enter trail through Box Canyon. There's a route that exits you through Walnut Canyon.

Ryan and I were part of a group and it was full day so maybe less for you.

We went with FJ cruisers so I'd say it's stock friendly with being careful... <!-- s:poke: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smiley_pokestick.gif" alt=":poke:" title="poke" /><!-- s:poke: -->

Glen, I'll go with you. I've never been to the ovens, but I've heard there not that tough to get to. I've got that Charles A Wells book, AZ Backroads &amp; 4 wheel drive trails. Where can we meet Saturday? I'm in Apache Junction. I'll be driving a dark blue 98 Disco with 35's.

Thanks for the info Shaun.

Chuck, let's meet at 9:30ish in AJ. You're more familiar with that area than me. I know there's a QT just off the 60, and a McDonald's. Why don't you decide.

I have two way radios. No ham or cb.

See you tomorrow.

Glenn, let's meet at the Shell station/McDonald's on US60 that is east of Apache Junction. It's at the intersection of Mountain Brook Dr (signal light east of Superstition Mountain Dr) and US60 on the north side of the road. Around 9:30 or so. I'll try to call this evening

Sounds good. If anybody else wants to join us, that's where we will be.

It went really well, we ran into a couple of different people who were out in the area with their families, that helped us find the ovens. It took a little longer than we thought but we made it. Will try to post some pictures soon.
