AZLRO - Special Event on Saturday, November 2nd in Sedona

5 years 3 months ago #6931 by douglawyer@gmail.com
Dear club members,

I belong to my local Fountain Hills Rotary Club and part of Rotary Club is work with the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, which allows high school students from the US and abroad to travel to foreign countries and spend a year living with host families and going to their local school. It a wonderful program that Rotary has been involved with for over 75 years.

This year through our Rotary district we have 6 exchange students in our immediate region, one which is from Brazil and living in Fountain Hills. As a Rotary member and an off road enthusiast, I thought it would be not only great to show them the exciting world of our amazing hobby, but even more amazing to show them the scenery of Sedona while riding around in our amazing rigs.

What I am proposing is a single day in Sedona hosting these 6 exchange students, and possibly their host families in multiple Rovers and doing Broken Arrow and Soldier’s Pass. I am not certain at this point what the total count would be, but I am assuming we need at least 15+ open seats.

What I would like to ask everyone at this early point in the game is to commit to the scheduled date, which is Saturday, November 2nd. There is currently an event already slotted in our schedule for this trip.

So please check our schedule and plan on attending if you can. As we progress closer to the date, I would also like to consider some sort of organized meal for the group as well.

Thanks for your help everyone! And if you can go, please sign up on the events page so I can start gauging the interest.

I'm interested, would the group plan this as a day trip or stay overnight in Sedona?

Probably just a day trip....maybe a long day indeed. Not sure at this point if we would have host family and student meet us in Sedona or possibly shuttle them up from Phoenix. Will work out these details as we get closer.

Hey everyone, as we approach closer to the November 2nd date I wanted to make a call for more volunteers. I will have all the Fountain Hills and Scottsdale exchange students and their families meet us in Sedona at Safeway the morning of November 2nd at 10 AM at the Safeway Store, 2300 Arizona 89A. It looks like I will need open seats for at least 15-20 people for this trip. Please sign up on the event page if you can come. I am also currently working out if we will have lunch on the trail or we will hit a local establishment afterwards. Thanks everyone and hope you can join us.

I still could use 1 or 2 more vehicles for tomorrow's run in Sedona. Anyone available to help out and take a few riders on the trails with us?

Anyone willing to do a nice write-up about the event and how it went so we can update the site's hompage?

Zsolt.s.szabo - would you be willing to add your photos to our photo section? If so, you need to create another account (you can create it with the same user/pass combo you use for the rest of this site) and I can approve it so you can add photos.

Anyone else take some pix? Plz post to the photo gallery.

Zsolt thanks for the photos, I uploaded them to the 2013 gallery! Of course I left out a few of my broken down LR3! <!-- s:thumbup: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_1thumb_up.gif" alt=":thumbup:" title="thumbsup" /><!-- s:thumbup: -->

Oops, I added the photos before I saw Bob's post!
