Father Daughter Trail or Weekend

5 years 8 months ago #6300 by cpowell
I would like to gauge the interest in having a Father Daughter trail or weekend. I was thinking April. We could do a day trip or an overnight. Suggest a location. I was thinking Walnut Canyon.

If you think its too soon after the rally we can plan the weekend after school gets out in june. We would have to go farther north. Maybe around flagg

There's dispersed camping available inside the Cinders OHV area, with lots of options... We can just pick a spot and throw down the tents..

I listed it as Father/Daughter, but like Chuck mentioned, all kids are welcome..

I am a definate maybe. Any particular activities planned? I have never been there. Is it a drive-around park or are there sights to see? I have competing activities that weekend so have to weigh them.

So far we've got a handful of people coming... I know Chuck and Andreas are coming from Tucson, and maybe some Phoenix folks too..

I've never been up there, so I'm not sure what the Cinders OHV area is like, but I have been to the Lava tubes, and it's a winner!

Hmmm, OK. If we go I will try to bring the Series since I finally have the brakes working. It will be slow-going and I probably dont want to do a short one-night thing. Maybe a midpoint overnight like Powell Springs, a nice former campground with tables and toilets, but no longer full-time attended.

Chuck, PM me.

We have a couple choices for for Camping.
1. Lockett Meadow (Developed FS Camp Site) North east of Cinder Hills off FS Road 552.
2. Can camp around Shultz Pass (no developed campsites just dispersed camping ing the forest)
3. We can camp in Cinder Hills.

Bonito Campground is also very close to Lockett... and much larger with toilets and water.

We usually do dispersed, but tough to plan with a group. My druthers are something without other people/groups nearby, or at least a minimum of generators/boom-boxes etc.

UP there near the cinders the risk of Dispersed camping is you'll have a much higher risk of dealing with the hordes of toyhaulers and the accompanying noise. Which is opposite what you'd expect, where the campgrounds are where the peace and quiet is..

of course unless we go deep into the forest.. but I'm thinking of my girls and the potty nearby is key.

Mockery Meadow was just named sixth best campground by Arizona highway. It has vault toilets but no drinking water. 17 sites in all. I'm leaning toward lockett.

yeah I figured... <!-- s:thumbup: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_1thumb_up.gif" alt=":thumbup:" title="thumbsup" /><!-- s:thumbup: -->

I have that edition of Arizona Highways in front of me... there's plenty of options up there, so if Lockett is full, then plan B, then C. etc..

Im going to try and leave early on friday morning and get 3 or 4 campsites at Lockett Meadow. We do Cinder hills and lava tubes on Saturaday and Leisure day on sunday.

Is any one coming up for the day at Cinders or arriving on Saturaday?

Not suretime and place to meet for cinder hills. Any Suggestions.
