Mt Graham Camping
Join us for camping at Treasure Park on Mt Graham near Safford. This is the same location we used previously. I have arranged for a tour of the Large Binocular Telescope at 2pm on Saturday.
We have reserved the east group site in Treasure Park. It is a nice, big meadow with plenty of room to run around. It is located on AZ 366 at mile marker 139.
The campsite has a few upgrades, there are now picnic tables and bear boxes. There will be NO water, they shut it off after Labor Day, so bring plenty. There are no toilets, although there are pit toilets at the nearby Hospital Flat Campground. The days will be warm and the nights cool, but there is plenty of firewood. The elevation is 8900 feet. Riggs Lake is a few miles up the road and is open for fishing and small boats.
A map of Mt Graham is here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5325453.pdf
Our campsite is off Road 89 on Map C.
I have secured permission for a tour of the Large Binocular Telescope (the World's Largest) for Saturday. IMPORTANT: If you want a tour of the telescope, you must email me the names of every person in your party and the year, make, model and license number of your vehicle by August 31st. This is so I can get your "squirrel permit" from the Forest Service. No dogs are allowed at the telescope, even if they stay in your car. Dogs are allowed at the campground. No firearms are permitted at the telescope.
Forrest Service graded roads to access camping areas.
