Tip Top Mine
Meeting: I-17 and Carefree Hwy - Chevron / McDonalds parking lot
Comm: We will use Ham 146.46 frequency for simplex and I will be monitoring ARA Shaw Butte 147.24 repeater. Can also use an FRS frequency to be determined. CB's are for Jeeps.
Details: We will leave the parking lot promptly at 8:30, a short while north on I-17 we will exit Table Mesa rd. After leaving pavement and airing down, the group will make the Journey to the Ghost Town of Tip Top and plan to have lunch there. Those that feel up to it, we can hike up to the shaft and A-frame structure as vehicle access is extreme to get there. Please be prepared with all water and food for the day, and since rain is possible, some rain gear would be advisable.
The Trail presented very well during pre-running this past weekend with some muddy sections in the rain. It should be dry by the weekend, provided we don't get any more rain. There is only one rock obstacle a few hundred yards before town that can be challenging, but with spotting, anyone can make it over.
This trail flows off of the main Table Mesa trail and leads you to an abandon mine, replete with large gears and a station house.
Supposedly this trail has been graded and is now not much of a challenge.
